Life in Ancient China
Foot binding:
Girls from the age of five
were forced to bind their feet. They had to break their toes and curl them back
by bandaging them. They had to keep there feet like that for long periods of
time. The smallest foot was bounded to about 10cm. A girl’s foot was
broke many times to get the perfect shape. Foot binding was a thought of
beauty. When breaking the foot they curl back eight toes and leave the two big
toes. The procedure of foot binding was painful and uncomfortable.
Women:
The positions for women were cruel, being forced into marriages and forced into having children, so lives for women were hard. A ladies job in ancient China was to have children, get married, taking care of the children and household chores. Women were empowered, Girls in ancient china did not have a name they were just called daughter number 1, number 2, number 3 and so on. After marriage a women would be a slave to her husband. Women in ancient china had no education, Women did not know how to wright but they made up there own language to send to other women the language is called Nushu.
Jobs/Working
Jobs in Ancient China were
hard for the poor they were farmers, they would spend all there day farming
without eating, so for the poor their jobs were back-breaking. Some jobs were
farming, mining, fishing, business, arts and crafts, trade, slaves and
merchants. Trade jobs salt, iron, silk and cattle. There were not many jobs for
the rich but there were owners, poets and scholar.
